Sale 213 Lot 478

Three framed British satirical colored engravings designed to mock contemporary politics, social trends, and public figures.
This collection features several hand-colored engravings from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, capturing the sharp wit of British satirical art. The first serves as a political critique of the British government, specifically mocking the introduction of a highly unpopular tax on clocks and watches. The second shifts to social satire, lampooning the leisure habits of the upper classes through a humorous depiction of donkey riding at the seaside. The final piece addresses the era's religious and political radicalism, portraying a "tub-preacher" delivering a spirited oration to a diverse, rowdy crowd gathered at a harbor. All framed. None examined out of their frames.
