ARTIST PROFILE: Lebadang (1921–2015) was a prolific Vietnamese-French artist celebrated for his ability to fuse Eastern philosophical roots with Western modernist techniques. Born in central Vietnam, he emigrated to France in 1939 and later studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse. His multidisciplinary career spanned over seven decades, during which he gained international acclaim for his "Spaces" (Espaces)—sculptural, textured works on paper that utilized collage and embossing to create topographical landscapes. A master of many media, Lebadang worked in oil, watercolor, bronze, and lithography, often returning to recurring themes of horses, cosmic families, and the intricate relationship between humanity and nature. His legacy is preserved at the Lebadang Memory Space in Hu?, Vietnam, and his works are held in prestigious collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in Paris and the Rockefeller Collection in New York.
