Anchored Boats
Oil on canvas
Oil on canvas showcasing several boats, some larger sailing vessels and others smaller, possibly fishing boats, moored in calm water. The color palette is dominated by muted greens and grays, enhancing the tranquil and somewhat melancholic mood of the scene. The painting captures a serene moment, possibly at dawn or dusk, with the mist and soft light obscuring the details of the background, drawing the viewer's attention to the silhouettes of the boats and their reflections in the water. Signed lower right hand corner. Framed.

$500-700

ARTIST PROFILE: Born in Cannes, France, in 1933, Gilbert Bria began exhibiting his paintings in 1958, eventually sharing the stage with masters such as Picasso, Cocteau, Lurçat, and Picabia by 1963. While his early career through 1970 was centered primarily in France, he expanded his reach internationally after 1971 with exhibitions across Switzerland, Italy, and the United States. Bria’s work garnered significant prestige and high-profile patronage; notably, Henry Kissinger reportedly purchased a piece for the White House, and his paintings were commissioned by the German Democratic Republic’s embassy in Paris, the Paraguayan embassy in Spain, and Princess Faisal of Saudi Arabia for her palace.
