ARTIST PROFILE: Marlon Hunt, born in Nassau in 1971, is a prominent naive abstract artist whose career transitioned from the technical world of architecture and construction management to the expressive realm of fine art. After completing studies at The College of The Bahamas and Florida International University, Hunt initially painted in secret until winning the 1993 Annual Art Exhibition at The Central Bank of The Bahamas, marking his first significant success. The economic shift following September 2001 served as a definitive turning point, leading him to abandon his construction career and commit fully to his artistic talents. His bold and confident abstract works are characterized by a vibrant palette that masks deep explorations of human emotion, including suffering and love, while frequently referencing his ancestry through his unique treatment of human subjects. Currently based in South Carolina, Hunt continues to influence the art community by producing studio works and teaching visual arts, bridging the gap between his Caribbean roots and contemporary abstract practice.
