Lois Mailou Jones (1905-1998) was a prominent African-American artist in the mid to late 20th century. In addition, Jones enjoyed a five-decade tenure at Howard University where she taught watercolor, design and drawing to during the course of her long career. In 1973 she became the first African American artist to be given a solo show at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Her paintings now can be found in the collections of many prominent museums.
