ARTIST PROFILE: Born in Mount Morris, New York, Marie Boening Kendall began her formal artistic training in New York City under the renowned William Merritt Chase. A 1903 graduate of Central Michigan University, she relocated to California shortly thereafter with her sister and settled in Redlands. She continued her education at the Los Angeles College of Fine Arts under the tutelage of Jean Mannheim, eventually developing a body of work that is now featured in numerous California collections. Around 1912, Marie married journalism teacher Dudley Kendall, and the couple moved to Laguna Beach in 1921. Throughout her career, she traveled extensively across North America to find diverse subject matter for her paintings.
