ARTIST PROFILE: Dorothy Hoyt Dillingham (1909–1997) was a distinguished oil and watercolor artist whose life and career were deeply rooted in New York and the academic community. After earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cornell University, she established herself as a professional artist in New York City during the 1930s and 40s while raising her two sons. In 1962, she returned to her hometown of Ithaca and married Howard Dillingham, the president of Ithaca College, where she became a prominent figure in campus affairs and interior design. A prolific traveler and exhibitor, Dorothy continued to showcase her artwork in galleries and museums worldwide until her passing in Missoula, Montana.
