THREE CONGOLESE LEGA PEOPLES MASKS, Mid 20th Century. Set of three patinated and used masks made by the Lega Peoples, Congo. These type of Lega masks are worn during "Bwami Society initiations" and are usually characterized by a heart-shaped, concave face. Lega masks can be worn on the side or the back of the head, hung from a beard or carried in the hands. All three have a well worn patina. Consignor acquired lot while working in the Congo in 1980s. - height (longest one): 9.25 inches.
