CENTRAL ASIAN TRIBAL BELT. Elaborate belt, with its complex construction and use of multiple stones, is a classic example of Central Asian or South Asian tribal jewelry. The design elements, including the use of carnelian and the style of the links, are very similar to jewelry made by the Turkmen, Pashtun, or Kuchi people of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan. These belts were often part of a woman's dowry and were worn on special occasions, such as weddings and festivals. The belt is composed of a series of large, hexagonal or octagonal links, each connected by multiple strands of chain. Each of these metal links is set with a central, reddish-orange stone, which appears to be carnelian or coral, surrounded by smaller, often multi-colored stones. Estimate $100-150
