ARTIST PROFILE: David Alfaro Siqueiros (1896 –1974) was a towering figure in 20th-century art, famously known as one of "Los Tres Grandes" (The Three Greats) of Mexican Muralism alongside Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco. A man of intense political conviction, Siqueiros was a high-ranking officer in the Mexican Revolution and a lifelong member of the Communist Party, whose activism—including a failed assassination attempt on Leon Trotsky—frequently led to imprisonment and exile. His artistic philosophy was rooted in the belief that art should be public, revolutionary, and technologically advanced.
