ARTIST PROFILE: Mark Power (born 1959) is a distinguished British photographer and educator who serves as a Professor of Photography at the University of Brighton and is a full member of the prestigious Magnum Photos agency. His career is defined by long-term, socially engaged projects, including his documentation of the fall of the Berlin Wall, his acclaimed visual journey through the areas of The Shipping Forecast, and his study of Poland's early years in the European Union titled The Sound of Two Songs. Over decades of practice, Power's technique has evolved from freelance editorial work to the sophisticated use of large-format and digital medium-format cameras to capture evocative urban and social landscapes. His contributions to the field have been recognized with honors such as the Terence Donovan Award and a fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society, and he continues to publish through his own imprint, Globtik Books.
