GHANA EWE KENTE TEXTILE STRIPPED-WOWEN GEOMETRIC PATTERN, Mid-20th century. Stripped wowen textile was worn by Elder Chiefs and Tribal Nobles in Ghana for special ceremonies (ie, weddings, funerals, and festival celebrations). They are commonly used at night for warmth. The tight weave of thick cotton creates patterns and designs and it also has supplemental woven embellishments. These textiles are also presented to dignitaries in honor of their visit to Ghana.
