Dr. William Hunter (1718-1783) was a renowned Scottish physician and anatomist. He owned three important Chardins which he bequeathed to the University of Glasgow, where they remain today as part of the 'Hunterian Collection.'
Chardin painted only a small number of portraits, usually of family members and friends.
