AMERICAN EMPIRE MAHOGANY SOFA. 19th century. Cornucopia carving; swan-neck roll-over arms; bird-carved brackets and animal paw feet. - 31 1/2 in. x 68 1/2 in. x 21 1/2 in.
Estimate $400-600

As with the vast majority of antique seating furniture, the frame will require strengthening. Typically the joints of sofa frames are reinforced with glue, and this glue wears out over time creating movement in the joints. Your upholsterer would undertake this repair (i.e. adding new glue) as part of changing the upholstery.

As for condition, the sofa is in overall very good condition. The surface has general scratches that may require general surface polishing. Examination located a prior repair on the proper right arm as well as one loose piece joining the arm and seat base. The feet are missing glue blocks and the rear foot is likely a later replacement.
