Sale 28 Lot 1465

PAIR AMERICAN FEDERAL GAMES TABLES, 19th century, mahogany. Lobed corners over conforming frieze with plaque; ring-and-baluster turned supports with foliate carving; chamfered plinth with concave shaping; similarly carved animal feet and casters - 28 3/4 in. x 36 1/4 in. x 18 in.
Estimate $800-1,200

Each appears with intermittent losses of veneer and cracks appropriate to the relative age of the Federal period games tables. As a pair, they remain in very good condition.

Examination found that one has a prior repair to the underside where the dowel (once present and now missing) was reinforced with contemporary hardware. With each table, the interior drawer bottom shows signs of wear, since one is now missing while the other has been replaced in subsequent years. Both were at one time fitted with linen bags.

Sold for $1,100
