BARRISTER GLAZED-PANEL BOOKCASE,20th century, oak, The Globe-Wernicke Co. Four stacking glazed-door compartments with strapwork hinges, opening to interior storage on ogee plinth with concealed compartment drawer - 57 1/2 in. x 34 in. x 31 in.; Interior: 8 1/2 in. D. Estimate $400-600
The Barrister Bookcase survives in very good condition with minor surface abrasion sustained to the sides of the case. It retains its original glass. Three of the four compartment doors open easily, while the fourth will require restoration to the scissor action. As with many Barrister Bookcases we see, the lower compartment drawer is missing its handles and has warped into the closed position over the years.
