Sale 28 Lot 649

FRENCH PROVINCIAL EMPIRE FAUTEUIL, 19th century, cream painted and upholstered in velvet. Back-scrolled crest enclosing padded rectangular back above block-carved handholds with paterae rondelles, baluster arm supports, stuff-over seat and bowed rails, and similarly turned legs - 33 in. x 21 in. x 20 1/2 in.
Estimate $300-500

This chair is somewhat unusual, and may have been adapted from a bergere judging by its tack history. Our examination found that one rosette was missing from the corner block. The chair appears with expected paint losses, age cracks, and fractures. Some restoration work was done, during which time the glue blocks were replaced. It was once fitted with cap caster feet.

Sold for $375
