Well-known for his fruit still lifes, Evans exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists in London at the turn of the 19th century.
Wax lined; vertical crease lines at center and in right half, horizontal crease at upper left and diagonal impression extending from top left to bottom left surface abrasions in background above melon at left side; scattered surface debris and dirt. UV: Inpainting along horizon, crease at upper left, along all crease lines, larger area in background to right of grapes at right side, and scattered on all edges.
