LOUIS XV STYLE MARBLE-TOP COMMODE,late 19th century. Reverse-serpentine case with parquetry doors centering handpainted figural pastoral scene enclosed by scrolling gilt-metal mounts; similarly ornamented sides; sabot feet - 43 in. x 47 in. x 18 in. Estimate $800-1,200
The painted figural pastoral scene is beautifully rendered, but movement of the secondary wood has created vertical separations. This is evidence of prior restoration to the painted doors. The proper right side of the marble surface is mended, and a small loss measuring 3/4 in. was found. The commode is a lovely example of late 19th century craftsmanship, and it remains in very good overall condition.
