EASTLAKE REVIVAL PAINTED FIREPLACE MANTEL,20th century. Floral-carved and reeded supports on stepped plinth bases joining molded frieze with rectangular ledge above - Overall: 47 in. x 62 in. x 11 in.; Aperture: 36 1/2 in. x 41 1/2 in. Estimate $75-100
Thank you for your question. The wood looks to be cherry. At present, paint conceals the primary surfaces, which makes wood identification more difficult. Judging by the paint history, it would appear that the mantel was originally intended to be shown naturally. If you have an interest in this item, I would be delighted to work with you in finding a shipper and recommending a conservator.
