MACGREGOR MODEL SCHENECTADY GOLF PUTTER WITH FOUR IRONS. Estimate $300-500
Golf Equipment historian, Pete Georgiady, writes that the Schenectady putter is the single most historic club in American golf; putter designed by Frank Knight (of Schenectady, NY) in 1902 and used by Walter Travis to win the 1903 US Amateur and the 1904 British Amateur. As an American, Travis so infuriated the British by winning their championship that they later banned the Schenectady and other center-shafted clubs. The USGA never abided by that decision and the club was in constant use here with the British finally lifting the ban in the 1950s. A good example of a Schenectady putter is one of the cornerstones of any golf collection.
