TWO SIGNED ITEMS BY AIRCRAFT DESIGNER AND BUILDER ANTHONY H. FOKKER. Both matted within same frame: first, black and white candid head photograph boldly signed and inscribed in pencil on separate parts of thin board framing mat: "To Jack Frye / Tony Fokker 1938;" the second, black and white photograph of Fokker Standard Airlines Inc. plane on airfield with luggage and six unidentified figures. Signed inscription in full: "To Jack Frye once my first agent (1926) then my best customer now my most admired friend in transport aviation field. My best wishes for further success. Tony Fokker May 1938." Lower part of mat partly stained, sight condition of both photographs very good. - First: 6 in. x 9 in.; second: 7 1/4 in. x 9 .1/4 in.

Also known as "The Flying Dutchman", Anthony Fokker (1890-1939), built planes for Germany, such as the Red Baron''s tri-plane, during World War I that made him world famous, and his machine gun synchronization system -- which allowed guns to shoot between the spinning blades of propeller -- was a turning point in the history of air combat.
