HERTER BROTHERS EBONIZED CHERRYWOOD, CURLY MAPLE AND ROSEWOOD WRITING TABLE, circa 1870-1880, thrice signed. Marquetry inlaid top with gilt-brass string inlay opening to writing surface with pen cradle; on turned legs joined by stretcher; turned feet - 29 in. x 24 in. x 16 in.

PROVENANCE: Descended in the Clark family of New York. Acquired by the present owner from the great-great-great grand-daughter of William Clark of the Lewis & Clark expedition.


Overall Fair Condition:

with small chips, scratches, and dents throughout. Scratches, small losses, and light cracking to finish of top. Lift top to fitted interior needs repair and gluing. Hardware has been replaced to hinged top. Scratches and rub marks to left and right sides. Loss to back left leg. Light abrasions to legs from use. H-stretcher has been repaired.
