RARE NEW MEXICAN POLYCHROMED WOOD BULTO OF CHRISTO CRUCIFICADO,mid-19th century. A large scale depiction of Christ in stylized pose with attenuated limbs, suspended on a cross; the torso with pronounced wound, the appearance highlighted by blood dripping down the body with pools collected on the knees; cross-form pins in the hands; surmounted by INRI banner. The whole of carved, gessoed and polychrome painted wood - 62 in. high x 38 in. wide. Estimate $3,000-5,000

Missing thumb and pinkie finger on one hand. Small Losses to painted surface of body and cross throughout - consistent with age and processional usage. Repair to neck and both shoulder joints. The pin through the feet has been repositioned. The figure has glass eyes.
