FRENCH ORMOLU FIGURAL CLOCK, Mid-19th century. Time and strike spring driven brass movement with bell strike, stamped "Charles Pickard" "Paris" "3V1C"; brass dial with blue cartouches on chapter ring with gilt painted Roman hour markers and embossed fleur de lis between each; centered blue circular "wreath" with silver "rope" tied as if to support bell-shape number VI cartouche on chapter ring; dial signed "Charles Pickard" "Paris"; beveled glass dial door flanked by gilt three-dimensional five-point star each side; large mythical centaur of young boy playing the white reed aulos (ancient Greek pipe played in pairs), lower human torso covered with flora and fruit garland, animal with single leg and cloven foot as handle-form on each side of clock body; base is decorated with hand-painted gilt design on blue cabochons; large open urn finial, also with the gilt-painted blue cabochons; both front and back case doors with beveled glass; clock is set on rectangular dark marble base supported on four adjustable brass feet; Pickard is listed as working at Rue du Temple in 1830 - 14 1/2 in. high; 17 in. high with marble.
