FRENCH VERMEIL-MOUNTED CARVED AND ENAMELLED IVORY DESK ACCESSORY, boar's head mark, 800 silver standard. Tripartite base, centered with carved acanthus decoration; supporting three columnar mounts, each fitted with vermeil wand, winged female mythological finial; enclosing central bulbous standard, with cartouches depicting various scenes of putti; hinged dome cover; the whole raised on three flower basket feet. Generously carved and well-detailed, with applied polychrome enamel allover - 5 1/2 in. high.

PROVENANCE: Private collection of a Maryland gentleman.

Ivory with cracks consistent with age and material, notably on base and one side of central well. There are fleabites and minor enamel losses along the edges of female finials. There are minor losses to the enamelled decoration. There is a chip on the edge of the base.
