HANDCOLORED AQUATINT, "GEORGE COOKE'S CITY OF WASHINGTON FROM BEYOND THE NAVY YARD". Published 1834, by Lewis P. Clover, New York. Handcolored aquatint, after the original painting by George Cooke. Original painting and aquatint depicts view of Washington DC from Anacostia, across Anacostia River. Print was published by Lewis P. Clover, 180 Fulton St., NY in 1834. Framed in gilt wood frame with beaded giltwood filet, with silk mat. - Framed dimensions: 30 1/8 in. high x 35 1/4 in. wide. Sight size:20 3/4 in. high x 26 3/4 in.wide.

PROVENANCE: The Old Print Gallery, Washington, DC, 1985

Not examined out of frame. The sky with two tiny spots of foxing. There is a repaired tear at the bottom right corner in the border; there is a repaired tear at the bottom left corner in the border. There is a long professionally repaired tear, approx. 8 in. long, beginning in the bottom left corner of the border and continuing along the diagonal up into the road and foliage of the engraving. The frame in good condition. The glass is intact.
