PLAINS INDIAN IRON PIPE TOMAHAWK, 19th-20th century, possibly Lakota, Sioux. Iron tomahawk blade is attached to wooden handle by a wide leather strap, held in place by brass tacks with red banding at top. Immediately below the wide leather sinews is animal fur encircling the wooden handle, followed by a wide strip of red cloth, encircling the handle and affixed by brass tacks to handle. Lower half of handle is wrapped with wide leather sinews, affixed by brass tacks. At bottom, a decorative object is affixed to the handle by leather strap through hole in handle
- 18 1/2 in. long.
