ENGLISH SCHOOL (19th century). with subjects pertaining to lawyers, 1) A Great Doctor of Canon Law, titled and published, per the print, on April 13, 1834 by T. M. McLean (26 Haymarket) with a blind stamp lower left. 14 ¼ in. x 10 ¾ in.

2) "Ape" (Carlo Pellegrini, 1829-1889), Lord Advocate, signed "Ape", titled and dated in the plate. Printed for "Vanity Fair" magazine by Vincent Brooks and so signed. Color lithograph. 14 ¾ in. x 10 in.

NOTE: "Ape" and "Spy" (Sir Leslie Ward- 1851-1922) were the most famous and appreciated caricaturists, both of whom appeared in the long-running and very popular English periodical, "Vanity Fair." The "Ape" watercolors upon which many of the lithographs were based, have brought between $1,000 and $4,000.
