Sale 77 Lot 1382

PAIR LOUIS XV CARVED AND PAINTED FAUTEUILS. 18th century, with nailed tapestry covering. Serpentine crested padded cartouche form back, shaped stuffover seat; shaped carved seat-rail; cabriole legs; escargot feet - 41 in. x 29 in. x 22 in.
Estimate $2,000-3,000

PROVENANCE: The Washington Club, Washington, DC

Best of the three pair of painted French chair frames dating from the 18th century; the back and seat coverings appear to have been made especially for these chairs and are in a delicate state of preservation. One seems to have newer nail-head trim both with later velvet back panels; arms and leg areas show wear from use; paint seems to be refreshed with old gilt enrichment.

Sold for $3,750
