AFRICAN DAN-GUERE MASK. Liberia. Dan-Guere mask finely carved in light wood with complex woven and braided hair, fiber and cloth headdress, metal bells on the perimeter. A spiral shaped metal empowering nail extends from center of the forehead. The coif and mask showing considerable age and heavy use, the face with a blackened smooth surface patina. A fine older example, on a custom base. - 13 in. high.
