The Societys' aims were to promtoe the study of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations and to give patronage to young British artists. Pars' watercolors were engraved for Ionian Antiquities in two large folios. The volumes proved to be a vital source of inspiration to English and American architectural classicism as well as providing illustrations of several sites that have since been destroyed.'
