PROVENANCE: This rug was exhibited in "Signs of Life: Symbols in the American City", an exhibition at the Smithsonian Insitution's Renwick Gallery that was part of the Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. The rug was exhibited in an interior scene that "evokes historical tradition and expresses the 'good taste' of the occupants."
