O'SULLIVAN, VINCENT. THE HOUSES OF SIN. London : L. Smithers, 1897. Publisher's cream colored boards, gilt cover design by Beardsley. Edges of the leaves left uncut. Copy number 107 of 400 copies. Worn and tanned along the spine, with a spot to the upper edge of the front cover and a split along the upper edge. Scarce.
Born in America, the author lived comfortably in London, travelling often to France, until in 1909. In that year, the whole O'Sullivan family fortune was lost after his brother Percy made a spectacularly mistimed futures gamble at the New York Coffee Exchange. In the plush years, O'Sullivan had been a friend to Oscar Wilde, to whom he was generous in those final years when so few could say the same.

PROVENANCE: Estate of Jim Graham, former Washington, DC, Councilman
