Isabel Sprague received her formal art training from Ingham University, LeRoy, NY 1871-72 which was the first University to open for women in the US. Her husband, Henry Sprague was one of thirteen men who travelled by train to the Dakota Territory from Warsaw, NY in January of 1882 to stake a homestead claim. He returned to NY a year later to marry Isabel. They spent the next six years living in Onida to satisfy the Homestead Act requirements before then returning to live in New York.
