STEIFF "RECORD PETER" MONKEY. Jointed brown mohair monkey with tan mohair chin, and tan felt hands, feet, face and ears; seated on metal four-wheeled cart with red painted wooden wheels. Estimate $100-150
The 1912 Steiff catalog described Record Peter "in silky brown mohair plush, seated on a self-drive chassis with sturdy wooden wheels and automatic sound box. Virtually unbreakable mechanism. Simply has to be pulled along by attached cord." This was one of the first items Steiff manufactured after reopening after World War II in the 1940s.
