ZAMBIAN CHEWA PEOPLES GUHL DANCE MASK, 20th century. Unique Chewa Peoples hand-made and decorated wooden Guhl dance mask. The mask is likely a powerful wilderness spirit with both human and animal features. Mask has a considerable amount of brown stained fibers that cover most of the chest of the person wearing it at a ceremony. Consignor acquired it while working in Zambia in 1980s. - height: 35 inches (including fiber-hair).
