CHARLES JACQUE (French, 1813-1894). Two works: "Rest," circa 1864 and "Courtyard," circa 1849, Two framed etchings. "The Rest" etching depicts a cow or cattle in a natural, rustic setting. The artist was known as an "animalier" (animal painter), and his favorite subjects included cows, sheep, and other farm animals. Plate: 8 7/16 × 6 1/2 inches. The "Courtyard" etching shows a woman washing clothes in a basin outside a rustic building. A young girl stands nearby, and chickens peck at the ground. Plate: 7 5/16 × 8 11/16 inches.
