ANGOLAN CHOKWE MUKANDA PWO MASK. Chokwe mask, specifically a Mwana Pwo (young woman) mask, originating from the Chokwe people of Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia. These masks represent the ideal of feminine beauty and honor female ancestors. Mask made of made of wood, fiber, and adorned with cowrie shells. The sunken eye sockets and serene expression are characteristic of Mwana Pwo masks. They often have delicate scarifications and filed teeth, representing beauty ideals. The forehead may feature the cingelyengelye motif, symbolizing the creator god Nzambi. - Height approximately: 17 inches.
