ANGOLAN CHOKWE MWANA PWO MASK. Chokwe Mwana Pwo mask from the Chokwe people of Angola, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This mask represents a young woman and is often used in initiation ceremonies for young girls, symbolizing beauty, fertility, and wisdom. The mask has a high forehead, almond-shaped eyes, and a small, slightly open mouth. Scarification marks are visible on the forehead and cheeks. Lastly, the mask is adorned with a headdress made of vegetal fibers, styled to resemble hair, and secured with a braided band. - Height: 11.5 inches.
