AMERICAN SCHOOL (21st Century). The Resurrection of Saint John the Baptist and the Breaking of the Mold, 1972, Oil on canvas painting inspired by the work of German artist t Max Ernst who was a key figure in the Dada and Surrealist movements. This painting incorporates surrealist elements, featuring dreamlike imagery and symbolic representations. The painting depicts a distorted human-like head emerging from a scroll-like form, with a lantern-like shape hanging below. A window-shaped opening in the background reveals a landscape with a tree. The title itself suggests themes of rebirth ("Resurrection") and liberation or change ("Breaking of the Mold"). Illegibly signed (with monogram) and dated lower right. - 18 x 18 inches
