ARTIST PROFILE: Art Seiden (1923–2004) was a prolific Brooklyn-born illustrator and author whose career spanned over half a century of commercial and children's art. After earning his B.A. from Queens College and refining his craft during an eight-year tenure at the Art Students League of New York, he initially applied his talents to the advertising world, representing high-profile clients such as General Motors and Philip Morris. He successfully transitioned into children's literature in 1950 with his illustrations for Three Mice and A Rat, and by 1953, he began writing and illustrating his own titles, starting with My ABC Book. Throughout his lifetime, Seiden’s incredible output included writing and illustrating more than 22 of his own books while providing the artwork for over 300 volumes by other authors.
