TOUSSAINT LOUVERTURE: SWEDISH LITHOGRAPH mid-19th century This lithograph portrait depicts Toussaint Louverture. He is shown in three-quarter view wearing an elaborate plumed bicorne hat and an ornately braided military dress coat with gold epaulettes, twisted aiguillettes, and a large multi-pointed star medal on his chest. The plate is numbered "No. 5" and marked "Fjerde Årgången" ("Fourth Volume/Year") in Swedish, indicating it was issued as part of a Swedish illustrated periodical. This format and labeling closely match "Litografiskt Allehanda," a Swedish lithographic magazine published in Stockholm from 1859 to 1865, known for its numbered plates and biographical portraits of notable historical and contemporary figures, printed at the publisher's own lithographic press in Stockholm.
