ARTIST PROFILE: Colin Maxwell Parsons (British, b. 1936) was born in Birmingham, England, in 1936. His first career was as an engineer in the British Army, where he served in a number of hotspots, including Egypt, Cyprus, and Northern Ireland. In 1969, he embarked on his second career as a professional artist, later moving to the Channel Islands, where he was the driving force behind the creation of the Guernsey Guild of Creative Art and held his acclaimed first solo exhibition in 1983. He later moved to California, where his landscape paintings became very collectible. He has since staged solo exhibitions in the Channel Islands, the United States, and Australia, establishing him as one of the foremost contemporary landscape painters in Europe. Parsons is known for atmospheric, impressionist-influenced landscapes — often riverside or countryside scenes bathed in soft, luminous light in a style frequently compared to that of Pissarro.
