Signed in the plate "Zamacois pinx." in the lower right, the print is after a genre composition (titled "Platonic Love," 1870) by the Spanish painter Eduardo Zamacois y Zabala, known for his detailed depictions of eighteenth-century costume and interiors, with the engraver's signature reading "Ragon sculp." in the lower margin.
