ANDRZEJ PITYNSKI Polish / American, 1947–2020 Three Works: Two Mounted Knights and a Fierce Horse, 2000. Charcoal on paper. Each one signed "AP" and dated 2000. Set of three framed charcoal drawings created in a dynamic, expressive style. The pieces depict dramatic, action-packed medieval or fantasy scenes, rendered primarily in black and white with strong contrasts and energetic line work. The top left drawing shows a mounted knight in a wooded setting, possibly engaged in a chase or hunt, with a wolf or dog running in the foreground. The top right drawing features a knight on horseback, wearing armor and carrying a lance or banner, captured in a pose suggesting a charge or movement across an open field. The bottom drawing is the most fantastical, portraying a fierce horse rearing up, rendered with powerful shadows and exaggerated, menacing features. Each is framed individually. ARTIST PROFILE: Andrzej Pitynski (1947–2020) was a prominent Polish-American monumental sculptor known for his powerful, realistic bronze works that primarily commemorate Polish history, heroism, and tragedy. Born in Ulanów, Poland, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków before emigrating to the United States in the mid-1970s, where he further studied at the Art Students League and became the supervisor of monumental sculpture at the Johnson Atelier in New Jersey. His most famous public commissions include the stark Katyn Memorial in Jersey City, New Jersey, which depicts a Polish officer impaled on a bayonet, and The Partisans in Boston, a large sculpture dedicated to freedom fighters worldwide that originally represented Polish anti-communist resistance.
