FOSSIL PLATE This fossil plate showcases a collection of exceptionally well-pike appearance. Despite their plant-like names, crinoids are actually echinoderms, making them close biological relatives of modern starfish and sea urchins. These specific specimens are likely Scyphocrinites elegans, a species frequently discovered in Morocco that dates back roughly 400 million years to the Silurian or Devonian periods. The remarkable level of articulation and fine detail visible in the plate suggests a "frozen in time" quality, likely caused by a rapid burial event that protected the organisms from scavengers and water currents immediately after their death. 29.5 x 22 inches
