JAN TZATZOE Kafir of Amakosah Tribe South Africa
19th century colored lithograph depicts a half-length portrait of a man identified in the cursive script below as Jan Tzatzoe, described as a "Kafir of the Amakosah Tribe". He is shown in a three-quarter view facing the viewer with his arms crossed, projecting a composed and dignified presence. He is dressed in a formal, high-collared blue military-style jacket adorned with gold-colored buttons and intricate gold embroidery at the neck and cuffs. This work was published in London & New York by G. Endicott in 1838. Unmounted; Unframed.
