NIGERIAN BENIN-STYLE SAND CAST BRONZE EDO PLAQUE This Benin-style sand cast bronze plaque is a modern homage to the historic relief sculptures that once adorned the royal palace of the Oba in the Kingdom of Benin (modern-day Nigeria). Cast using a traditional sand or lost-wax method, the rectangular plaque features six stylized male figures in low relief, arranged in a formal, horizontal row that reflects the hierarchical and commemorative nature of Edo court art. Each figure is depicted with large, expressive eyes and wears a distinctive conical helmet and a cross-belted tunic, typical of the regalia worn by palace officials or royal guards. The bronze possesses a heavily encrusted, earthy patina that mimics the aged appearance of ancient archaeological finds, while the small loop at the top center indicates its intended use as a wall-mounted decorative or commemorative piece. 5.5 x 8.5 inches
