The design features diagonal stripes containing repeating geometric motifs known as step-volutes, meanders, and stepped hooks. Typically dating to the Late Intermediate Period (approximately 1000–1476 CE), these fragments were woven using cotton warps and camelid wool wefts, such as alpaca or llama, utilizing a slit-tapestry technique where gaps are left between different colored sections.
